Thomas Nelson Premier Collection KJV Giant Print Center-Column Ref. Bible, Black Goatskin - Review

This is the King, James giant print center column, reference bubble, part of the premier collection from Thomas Nelson - and this, I have to say, is it's probably my favorite of the premier collection. I just love the typeset. I love the. I love the cover the this cover. Maybe it's just this specific cut of goat skin this. This goat skin has a little more graininess just a little bit more graininess to it, not sure that's going to be the case with all the King, James editions versus the New King, James and and NIV editions on this premier collection.

But this King James Edition is one of my favorite, so just a few little notes, this Bible is retailing for 150. That's an insane deal right now anyway, but it's on sale for 90 bucks like less than a hundred bucks folks. This is a goatskin edge, lined calfskin liner gold, gilt lon red under gold, art gilding three ribbons I mean, and this is a 36 GSM paper. I mean for 90 bucks. What that's crazy, like this Bible, should retail for 200 or more and sell for around the 120 130 mark at a minimum, for it to to sell for under $ 100, is just crazy.

It's just just nuts, it's nuts! So here's the here's, the box, it's a two piece box, much much like the cross way. Heirloom edition boxes, this really sturdy, really sturdy boxes. I hear some of the features there. You see the goatskin Smith's own age line, arguing we're talking about that guilt line already talked about that. This is the Comfort print typeface. I love the layout. I love everything about it.

The the Bible paper is excellent and we'll talk about the ribbons a little bit of a letdown on the ribbons, the the center column. Different systems is nice, the actually the concordance is a is a nice concordance. I, like it 12-point font, not not really sure if the generous Yap is quite accurate on the the adjectives there. It might not be a generous. Yet it's not no yep. It has some yet but on anyway, so here's the ice being and the retail of 150, which again that's insane how cheap that is baubles even somewhat close to this quality, are typically printed and bound by Youngblood in the Netherlands.

This Bibles printed and bound in China, which I'm sure makes makes it a little bit cheaper. The the goat skin feels a little different. The grade of goat skin feels a little different than a Youngblood goat skin, but it looks like a Youngblood bound Bible. It really does. I did this on the New King James review, and I wanted to show you something similar. This is the Omega and, and it has a similar cover now this is Youngblood.

This is the goat skin Youngblood uses you see, it's more grainy has a different texture. This is what they call a full grain goat skin, but the grain is not quite as pronounced as the Youngblood cover. The Youngblood also has a little more spine reinforcement. You can feel that spine, reinforcement on this Omega or but there's really not that much. There have seen a few complaints from people that that there might be a wrinkle or two in the spine from it folding the there not being enough spine reinforcement.

That's why I would love to have the raised ribs, or these are tooled ribs, but all that costs more money. So this was this is the best quality premium Bible for under $ 100 that I've I've, probably ever seen, even even like the King, James editions produced by Church Bible publishers there in the 70s, so they're just a little bit less expensive than these. But this is going to have a little bit better paper.

This is going to have a calfskin liner where Church Bible publishers, editions are a synthetic liner, now they're, great and but you're not going to have the interior gilt line to get a to get a goatskin Church Bible publishers Edition it's 200 bucks. I mean that's it's. What I'm saying these this is just incredible value for the money. I'r telling you folks, if you haven't gotten one you need to you, need to get one because it is, it is really close to the quality you find in the the young blood bound Bibles like this Omega.

This Omega retails for 250, so $ 100. More than then, this giant print center column, reference Bible and, and now this is on 28 GSM paper, and this is on 36 GSM paper, but you can see this has got a lot less ghosting I mean that's, that's amazing. The quality of print, the quality of paper, there's no crinkle in the gutter, I mean it's smooth. The paper feels smooth it's amazing so anyway, I just want to kind of show you those similarities with a Youngblood bound Bible and now, let's just kind of dive in really I'm going to go through this bottle pretty quickly, so just bear with me.

So let me pull my sleeve back so as we open it, you can see. As I've already pointed out, you have your your leather liner, gilt line printed in goatskin leather cover edge lining in pages. You have your presentation page, your title page, title page and your publication page on the back of that. Second one, you can see it's a 2018 printing Chinese printing took a dim, more font, which is the Comfort print font.

How the typeface, which is the layout is, is called the Thomas Nelson King, James Version typeface. So it's it's a common typeface. You can get other Bibles with this exact same pagination page for page. You know a much cheaper Edition, but you won't have this exceptional paper. The exceptional cover, and so on and so forth. So anyway, you have your your letter to James. We have your contents and then it gets right into the bauble.

So you don't really have your typical introduction to the King, James epistle dedicatory. All that stuff. You really don't have that in this edition. So here's your layout, you have two columns with center column, references, it's a 12-point font and it's it's right at 12-point font. It's nice really readable, it's a verse-by-verse layout and, of course, most almost all King James Version. Bibles are verse by verse layout each book has got an introduction with kind of a summary and the the book titling is in red your caps at the start of each chapter or in red you have your references are in bit of red.

It's just really great. I mean I love this so much, it's really nice and just really really nice. This paper, like I said, there's no crinkle in the gutter. It has such a great feel. You can see that there's there's not much ghosting, even though this is not a loan matched edition. This is an older typeset, non-law matched it's still. You don't have a ton of ghosting, it's really readable, really a joy to read.

One thing I want to point out the three ribbons I said I was going to talk about it. The three ribbons are single faced satin ribbons. Okay, so that's not a huge deal, but you can tell the difference in that's the non satin and that's the set, and you can see there's a there's, a shine to the satin side. Most premium Bibles are going to use a double faced, satin ribbon. We have that that's silky shiny side on both sides, so I'm not really sure why they only used a single faced.

Satin ribbon, it's still really nice and the ribbons are going to last. You know just like a double-faced would they're just not going to be as nice as a double faced, satin ribbon anyway. It should that should not discourage you from buying this bauble, like I said, for the price, this Bible is a an incredible deal, an incredible deal. So I want to bring one out that I think compares fairly nicely with it.

Let me get this one. Second, sorry, it is the church Bible, publishers, turquoise, so the turquoise. This is a very similar layout and you can see here it's it's very similar, 12-point layout. This is 37 GS in paper, this is 36, but the feel of this paper is just amazing. It's amazing! Now you there are long promise, you have the turquoise and you have this giant print. This is just it's great. I love it.

So, let's find one! That's that's comparable, we're at psalm 108. Maybe I can get to 108 here. We are some 108 you're you're, really not that different here. This is a pronouncing text where this is not a pronouncing text and if we're in you know, if we were in Chronicles, you know we can go back to Chronicles you're you're not going to see as much of punctuation in this right behind israa. You got two Chronicles, so if we go back in the turquoise one more turn here, we go.

You see all this punctuation, where you're pronouncing names and and and all this good stuff, the you're not going to have that in this edition. You don't have that punctuation for the pronouncing text. I kind of like this better. I and I have been such a huge fan of the turquoise for so long. I love it but Mastretta to me. It reads smoother. Sometimes the pronunciations are helpful, but but for the most part, most times, they're they're somewhat of a distraction.

So it's kind of nice to have this text. It flows a little bit better and again. This is just a really nice paper. Now this Bible they produce these. At cost people this one, I'm trying to tell you they produce these bubbles and sell them at cost and they're 75 bucks. This Bible is on sale for 90 bucks and it's a skinned King James with go red under gold or gilding I mean it is unbelievable. I mean the deal on these right now is just crazy.

Like I said it's still, a great deal for the for the turquoise. This is accept is great paper. I love this layout. It's a classic layout, very thankful to have this edition, but that is just an incredible deal on this premier collection, King James Version, John Prince Center column, reference Bible. So really let me go to the back. I know I said it has a great concordance, I'm just going to go ahead and show you it's a it's a 1.

It's a red-letter text. Ok, I'm sorry! It's a black letter text. Don't don't even pay attention to me! It's a black letter text I'll show you right here and enjoying their black letter text and it's a red letter text would be a little too distracting with your red highlights and stuff, and I want to show you the concordance. The concordance in this editions were really cool. It's a three column has three columns the reading plan.

I'r not not a huge fan of reading plan, it does have one. You also have the miracles and parables of Jesus right. There. You have your one-year reading plan, which is a it's seven days a week and it's and it's morning and evening it's it's a it's a pretty tedious reading plan, but anyway the concordance is a three column concordance. I would have loved to have seen you know how they do. The the alphabetical sounds in red I'd love to have seen them do each word in red just to where it just kind of stands out a little different, but whatever it's still awesome, a great concordance and then after the concordance.

Unfortunately, we have maps on glossy cardstock. Unfortunately, I really wish they had that people would use matte cardstock are thicker Bible paper or something like that for the map section. Just it's just not my favorite. When you write on it, you got to make sure it drives with a good or you'd smear it. They wrinkle over time once this once this cardstock, this shiny or cardstock, gets a wrinkle in it.

It never ever goes away. So anyway, that's just one of my nitpicking things, but still it's still an excellent Bible for 90 bucks folks. This is just insane, but you have some nice maps there they're good maps. I just wish they're on a different substance and that's all I can really say about it. So here's the ass being again - and you have the really nice calfskin liner edge, lined with your your guilt lot on the the X, the the back of the interior of the cover and here's, the exterior of the cover, the back portion you can see.

It looks just as pretty and generous yep. I'd, probably just say it's a it's, not a no Yap. It's got a semi app at as in lower case s. I mean it's a semi app at a minimum. So anyway, that's that's where we're at with that. But it's great Bible, great Bible. This is probably one of my favorite Bibles of the premier collection, the new premier collection, just because it's just such an excellent value, what you're getting for the money so anyway.
